Commuters should avoid driving in certain parts of downtown Durham on Thursday due to road closures for Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit.
Harris will be visiting the Durham Center for Senior Life on Rigsbee Avenue at approximately 2 p.m. after flying into Raleigh-Durham International Airport shortly after noon, according to her office.
Streets in the area, including Rigsbee Avenue, Hunt Street and Seminary Street, will be “severely impacted” by the vice president’s visit, according to Gina Rozier, a spokesperson for Downtown Durham, Inc.
Certain streets, including the intersection of Rigsbee Avenue and Morgan Street, were already closed as of Thursday morning.
After touring the senior care center, Harris will deliver remarks on the Biden administration’s efforts to lower health care costs through the Inflation Reduction Act, which Congress recently passed with a tie-breaking vote from Harris and the president signed into law.
Later in the evening, Harris is expected to speak at a private fundraising event, before returning to Washington.
