Two tickets in North Carolina scored $1 million prizes in Friday’s Mega Millions drawing, but do the winners know it?
No one immediately claimed the prizes, state lottery officials said Saturday.
Two Megaplier tickets in the game won $20,000, while 12 Mega Millions tickets won $10,000, according to a lottery news release.
A ticket in suburban Chicago won the $1.33 billion Mega Millions jackpot, the second-largest in the history of the game and third-largest in U.S. history., lottery officials said. The winner beat the odds of 1 in 303 million.
The two $1 million tickets matched the five white balls in the drawing. One was sold at Adam’s Mart on Elm Lane in south Charlotte and the other at Shop N Save on Mecklenburg Highway in Mooresville, according to the lottery.
The $1 million tickets were among 26 nationally in Friday’s drawing, officials said .
“Congratulations to all the big winners,” Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery, said in the news release . “This huge Mega Millions jackpot created a lot of fun. Every ticket sold in North Carolina helped to raise more money for education this year.”
Other Mega Millions drawing winners
Two tickets matched four white balls and the Mega Ball, winning a base prize of $10,000, officials said. Because the buyers added the $1 Megaplier feature, the prize doubled to $20,000 when a 2X multiplier was picked in the drawing.
The winners bought the tickets at Quality Mart on Old Mountain Road in Statesville and the Speedway on West 5th Street in Washington in Beaufort County, officials announced.
Twelve other $2 tickets matched four white balls and the Mega Ball, winning $10,000, according to the lottery. Those tickets were sold at:

▪ Circle K on U.S. 1 in Vass
▪ Tickled Pink C-Store on Kernersville Road in Winston-Salem
▪ Sheetz on Whitley Drive in Winterville
▪ Short Stop on Anderson Ponds Drive in Spring Lake
▪ Circle K on Waxhaw Highway in Mineral Springs
Friday night’s winners have six months to claim their prizes.
The Mega Millions jackpot resets to $20 million for Tuesday’s drawing.
The top prize for Saturday’s Powerball drawing stood at $170 million.
