Tip for getting into Raleigh Costco by avoiding Chick-fil-A

RALEIGH

Why did the chicken cross Six Forks Road? Probably to get away from all the fast food traffic coming soon.

A new Chick-fil-A is coming to Raleigh, and while the opening of one of the most popular fast food chains is a good thing for fried chicken sandwich lovers, the location of this one could pose some logistical challenges.

The new Chick-fil-A, currently under construction, will be located on East Six Forks Road, tucked in the corner of a developing shopping center behind the popular brunch spot, First Watch.

That puts it right across the street from the main entrance to Costco.

Chick-fil-A traffic has been known to spill out of the parking lot (see: Lake Boone Trail), to the point that at some locations, restaurant employees have had to turn into crossing guards.

With the daily heavy traffic coming in and out of Costco (not to mention Chick-fil-A’s grand opening weekend, whenever that turns out to be), things could get tricky.

So what’s the easiest way to maneuver between the two stops on a busy day? We’ve got you.

How to get to Costco while avoiding Six Forks

Depending on the time of day, the line to get gas at Costco could back up on Six Forks as soon as you turn off Wake Forest Road.

Pretty soon the Chick-fil-A line could rival the gas line.

What’s the best way to get to Costco when Six Forks is busy on both sides?

Try sneaking in the back way.

▪ Industrial Drive, which runs behind Costco and crosses over Six Forks is your best bet. Drivers can access Industrial from Wake Forest Road by taking Creekside Drive and hanging a left. That will bring drivers behind Costco completely avoiding Six Forks.

That’s also the smart way to exit Costco on a busy day. Sure, depending on where you park you’ll have to avoid shopping carts, walkers (not “The Walking Dead” or “Game of Thrones” type) and drivers backing out of parking spaces.

But that route is 10 times better than trying to exit the Costco parking lot on Six Forks. Chances are once the Chick-fil-A opens drivers will be sitting there for a while, especially if they are trying to make a left on Six Forks.

Bonus tip: The best part about the Industrial route is, beside avoiding the Six Forks traffic, you can also take Industrial to sneak in the back at Wegmans and the Trader Joe’s shopping center.
